Demonstrations Track

Goal

The ICSE 2011 Demonstrations track will provide a forum for conference participants to present novel and innovative software tools and techniques to the software engineering community. The ICSE 2011 topics of interest are appropriate areas for tool demonstrations. The Demonstrations track will enable conference participants to view research systems in action and to discuss the systems with the people who created them.

Scope

Tool demonstrations are intended to show both early implementations of novel software engineering concepts as well as novel commercial products that are likely to be of interest to researchers (e.g., open source, well documented, extensible, free for academic use). Each demonstration will be presented through the use of a prepared video at the conference, as well as through a three-page paper to be published in the ICSE proceedings.

Review and Evaluation Criteria

Each submission will be reviewed by three members of the ICSE Demonstrations committee. The committee will review each submission to assess the relevance and quality of the proposed demonstration in terms of originality, soundness, and presentation quality. Submissions should describe their relevance to software engineering, discuss the level of maturity of the tool, and reference the technical foundations upon which they are based (typically through appropriate references to previously-published work).  As mentioned above, commercial tools that are likely to be of interest to the research community can also be submitted.

Submission

Demonstration papers must conform at time of submission to the ICSE 2011 Format and Submission Guidelines, and must not exceed 3 pages, including all text, references, appendices and figures. All submissions must be in English. Submissions must be in PDF format.  All submissions should be accompanied by a video of the tool demonstration. Videos must not exceed 5 minutes in length. The submission should clearly indicate the URL where the video is available to be seen by the reviewers. The deadline for demonstration papers submission is December 10, 2010.

Papers must be submitted electronically through CyberChairPRO.

Acceptance

Upon notification of acceptance, all authors of accepted papers will be asked to complete an ACM Copyright form and will receive further instructions for preparing their camera ready versions. At least one author of each paper is required to present in the Demonstrations Track at the ICSE 2011 conference. All accepted contributions will be published in the conference electronic proceedings which will also be available as printed proceedings.

All accepted papers will be asked to upload their demonstration video to YouTube and provide a URL to the uploaded video for inclusion on the ICSE 2011 website.

Presentation and Video Demonstrations

The authors of accepted demonstrations will be expected to discuss and show a video of the tool demonstration (this can be updated before ICSE 2011) in a 15 minute time slot at a session during the main conference. Two data projectors will be available, so that both a live demonstration and slides can be projected at the same time. In addition, there will be another time slot for all demonstrators to present their work and clarify any questions on a one-to-one basis with the conference attendees, providing more opportunities for stimulating interactions.

Equipment

We will not provide any computing equipment such as computers, disk drives, or monitors. We will, however, provide basic electronic projection capabilities.
