Software Engineering in Practice Track

Call for Papers

ICSE has historically been the platform of choice for noteworthy industry-academia conference interactions in all matters of Software Engineering. Continuing this tradition, ICSE 2011 nurtures and values these interactions bringing together software engineering practitioners and researchers from industry and academia via the Software Engineering in Practice Track.

This track solicits high quality research papers and experience reports focused on industrial practice and applications of software engineering foundations, methods, practices, processes and tools. We welcome, in particular, results of partnerships between industry and academia that are pragmatic, practical, highly relevant, and thoroughly researched. Papers representing experience reports or case studies are of substantial interest. Papers should address the following: the context of the problem and why it is important; closely related work; a concise explanation of the approach, techniques, and methodologies employed; the best practices that emerged; the tools developed, the software processes involved, and their broader applicability; overall assessment of effectiveness, risks and mitigations, and other lessons learned; as well as how other approaches may have been considered or tried, but not chosen. A sample collection of Software Engineering in Practice submissions can be found in the proceedings of past ICSE conferences. All submissions will be peer reviewed.

Areas and Topics of Interest

This track will bring out the best of the software engineering research, practice, and experience in diverse fields of enterprise and business – from traditional industries like aerospace, finance, energy, telecommunications, health, engineering and defense to emerging areas like bioinformatics, life sciences, online retail, computer games and virtual worlds, green IT, cloud or grid computing, social networks, sustainability, and society. Papers addressing new development methods and tools that depart from traditional software engineering, such as free/open source software, distributed collaboration, international outsourcing, and crowdsourcing, are encouraged. The areas and topics of interest in the Technical/Research Track are also relevant for the Software Engineering in Practice Track.

Review and Evaluation Criteria

Each submission will be reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, importance of contribution, soundness, evaluation, quality of presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work.
